Antibiotic Question

A)Day 1 - 500mg
Day 2 - 875mg
Day 3 - 1156.25mg
Day 4 - 1367.19mg
Day 5 - 1525.39mg
Day 6 - 1644.04mg

B)On the first day you could take two pills to give you 1000mg on the first and then a half of a pill for every day for at least five more days.

#8 homework

a) We got:
1st day --> 500mg 125
2nd day--> 875mg [500+(500-125)] 218.75
3rd day --> 1156.25 mg [500+(875-218.75)] 289.06
4th day --> 1367.19mg [500+(1156.25-289.06)] 341.8
5th day --> 1525.39mg [500+(1367.19-341.8)] 381.35
6th day --> 1644.04mg [500+(1525.39-381.35)]

*The green represents the amount released from the previous day, and the blue is the amount released from the corresponding day.

b) To achieve a level of at least 1000mg daily using only 6 pills, take 2 pills (500mg each) the first day and then half a pill (250mg each) each morning until all six pills run out. This is the work:

1st day --> 2 pills x 500mg each = 1000mg
2nd day --> [250+(1000-250)] = 1000mg
*in the square brackets the first 250 represents the amount of mg in half a pill, the information in the round brackets represents the amount of mg lost from the first day.
3rd day --> [250+(1000-250)] = 1000mg
4th day --> [250+(1000-250)] = 1000mg
5th day --> [250+(1000-250)] = 1000mg
This only used 4.5 pills, but the level of at least 1000mg was reached.

YAY Homework

There is many ways that you could interpret this question and i am sure there is a few ways i do not no.
For A I thought that you only take the 25% of of the pill that you take for the day and not take 25% off of everything that you have in your body from the days before to. So for my answer i got 2250 mg of antibiotic in the body after the sixth day. If you took 25% of of everything that you have in your body that day then your answer will be different.
For B I took 2 pills the first day and then I took only a half a pill a day for the next 5 days to maintain the 1000 mg a day need. This question is like the other so if you take 25% off of the full amount in your body your answer may very instead of taking 25% of off of just the pill you take that day.

drug question

So basically what I did for a) is took the pill on the first day, and then to calculate the amount in the body for each day I multiplied the amount of drugs in the body from the previous day by .75 because if .25 is eliminated that is how much will be left in the body. I then added the amount taken that day to figure out how much total drugs are in the body that day.

For b) i followed pretty much the same pattern as a). I started out with two pills on day one to acquire the 1000mg needed. I then took 1/2 a pill per day until day 9 which gave me my six pills and exacly 1000mg of drugs in the body each day.

#8 Pills

A) day 1____ 500mg
day 2____ 875mg
day 3____1156.25mg
day 4____1367.19mg
day 5____1525.39mg
day 6____1644.04mg

B) You could take 2 pills the first day. On the second day you could take 1 pill. The third day you could take 1. The forth day you could take your last 2 pills.

Infections and Antibiotics

500 mg tablets
term starts 8:am each morning
by next day 25% of antibitoic is consumed.

a) 500*.75= amount left over at 8:am next morning

day1= 500
day2= 375
day3=381.25
day4=158.20
day5=118.65
day6=88.99

b) 1000mg of antibiotic per day. within the rules of pills can only be taken at 8:am and no partial pills are needed.

day1= 2x500mg
day2= 2x500mg
day3= 1x500mg
day4= 1x500mg
day5= 1x500mg
day6= 1x500mg
taking in total 8 pills of 500mg will not allow the body's antibotic level to fall below 1000mg. over the six days you would have consumed in total 4000mg of antibiotics.

=(141*4) + 750
=1314mg

(By taking 4 pills in a period of 5 days)

Antibiotic Question

This is my answer for question 8. Aimee, Pauline and I worked on it together.

Question #8

The BOLD numbers are what is left from each day.
a) 1st day: 500mg - 375mg - 250mg - 125mg - 0mg
2nd day: 500mg - 375mg - 250mg - 125mg - 0mg
3rd day: 500mg - 375mg - 250mg - 125mg
4th day: 500mg - 375mg - 250mg
5th day: 500mg - 375mg
6th day: 500mg
* Add all the bold numbers to get the total amount of medication
Total = 1250mg (125 + 250 + 375 + 500)
* You loose 25% each day (125mg) so there would not be any left from day 1 abd 2 because that would be 5 and 6 days. The pills only last 4 days. So therefore you only count day 3, 4, 5, and 6.

b) 1st day: 2 pills (1000mg)
2nd day: 1/2 pill (250) 750mg left from last day (750 + 250 = 1000mg)
3rd day: 1/2 pill (250) 750mg left from last day (750 + 250 = 1000mg)
4th day: 1/2 pill " "
5th day: 1/2 pill " "
Total amount of pills = 6 (bold numbers)

She would take 2 pills the first day and then take a half of a pill each day after that, to maintain a 1000mg of medication.

Answers to Question 8

I figured instead of taking away 25% it was easier to find the percent of each number such as 25% of 500 was 125. This way it made it somewhat easier for me to understand.

Fractals

Homework check! Make sure you do the homework because Mr. Max finds the need to weigh them rather high.

Last day of Sequences... Today Mr.Max is going over the homework. Questions 6 and 10.

6.

homework for the weekend - question 8 and finish question 14 too.

Alsoooo Mr.Max handed us out Applied Mathematics Standards tests for us to look at. Very nice of him to do that. They willl be very useful to us i think.

Thursday, December 6, 2007

Hey,
So we started off the class with mental math. He then went around the room and did a homework check on question 15 on our Sequence review package (Murky Island bears).

If you don't have excel on your computer at home Mr, Max recommended using.......google docs and spreadsheets (docs.google.com)
Next we corrected question 15

Above is an example of a fractal

Sequences and Series

Sequences and Series

In October, an oil well in Alberta produced 80m³ of oil. Each month, the well produces 3.1% less oil than the previous month.

a) In total, how much oil will be produced during a 6-month period beginning October 1st.

Method #1 (home screen method)
· Add all 6 months = 444.31m³

b)Once the well production drops below 60m³ per month, it is not profitable to operate the well. In which month will it no longer be profitable to operate the well?

Continue pressing enter to get the following numbers:

a) Method #2 – Sequence Mode on the Calculator
Mode - seq – Y=
2nd 7 = funny looking u
(n-1) press X,T,θ,n to get italicized n
*“The u(n) term in the sequence is dependent on the u(n-1) term”

Window Change settings depending on question.
Ymax- is greater than 80 because 80 is the most oil we are going to have.
Graph Line graph is shown, trace trace to find the number you want. In this question we want to go 10.

b)Gather numbers together and add them together to find b.

Method #3- Excel – make a spreadsheet

Method #4 – Shodor Websote “Sequencer interactivity

*you may use this website (as you did Ron Blond), provided you indicate all inputs.

Hopefully this is a litte bit easier to read, personally I find the notes off the smart board hard to read on the blog so I figured I would try it this way.

Hey, so today I found out i was scribing an 1 hour into class. So that is why you should always look who is scribing at the start of class. We handed in our baseball question after mental math. Then we had a homework check on the driveway question. He said to never round a number in a deep question like this one and anouther thing to keep in mind is to buy stuff in whole units. He showed us how to use GST and PST on the driveway question.

The answer for method one without PST and GST 8932.00 and the second method is 11381.72.

Hey, so today in math Mr. Max told us that the answer to the ballpark question was in the range of about $80000.00.

He went into excel and showed use how we could see our answers and the formulas that you used to get those answers.

Heres how you do it:
STEP 1 --> press and hold control button (ctrl)
STEP 2 --> press the tilde button (~)

Here are the notes that we did today.
